Understanding GRP
Gross Rating Points (GRP) is a metric used in advertising to measure the size of an audience reached by a specific media vehicle or schedule. It's calculated by multiplying the percentage of the target audience reached (reach) by the frequency of exposure.
Using the Calculator
- Enter your target audience size (the total number of people in your target demographic).
- For each ad placement or media channel, enter:
- Name: A descriptive name for the placement (e.g., "TV Spot," "Facebook Ad")
- Reach (%): The percentage of your target audience exposed to the ad
- Frequency: The average number of times those reached will see the ad
- Add more placements as needed using the "Add Ad Placement" button.
- Click "Calculate GRP" to get your results.
GRP Formula
GRP = Reach (%) × Frequency
For example, if an ad reaches 50% of the target audience and is shown an average of 3 times, the GRP would be 50 × 3 = 150.
GRP Benchmarks
- 50-150 GRP: Typical for a lightweight campaign with limited objectives
- 150-300 GRP: Medium weight campaign suitable for maintaining brand awareness
- 300+ GRP: Heavy campaign intensity, often used for product launches or major promotions
